HOLIDAY SONG
Four (4) days until zero hour
Alone in the car
No magic can save me now
From this burning star
I guess I should have listened
When warnings were sent
I didn’t think my good luck
Was all spent
The wind blew the snow
Hard down the line
I pulled into a rest stop
And it was all mine
Kentucky or Virginia
I can’t recall for sure
Winter desolation
With no apparent cure
I crawled in the back seat
And made it my bed
Torn vinyl made me yearn
For southern comfort instead
I looked out the window
Sometimes beauty is bleak
The moon cast its shadow
On the pines by the creek
Better go right
Get it straight
We don’t have the time to wait
I spent much more than I earned
And watched
As all my bridges burned
I saw a coyote
There by the banks
I threw him some food
But he never said thanks
He howled out a tune
In lycanthrope time
And to this day
That song stays on my mind
I dreamed about some palm trees
In a line by the strand
A girl and her dog
Left their prints in the sand
She turned for a moment
Dark hair in the breeze
That’s when I awoke
From the cold of the freeze
Four (4) days until Christmas eve
Alone in the dark
What a scenario
There’s static on the radio
